The project
A pre works survey recorded water ingress and weathering to the Cowick Road elevation, with failed mortar joints, damaged render and rot to several window frames and heads. The report set out the affected areas so the repairs could be priced and sequenced before scaffold went up.
Full scaffold and protective netting were installed across the front and side elevations, allowing safe access above the shop fronts while the parades below stayed open and trading throughout the works.
Our team carried out the masonry and mortar repairs, made good the damaged render and detailing, and repaired or replaced timber to the window frames, heads and cills before any decoration started.
The elevations were then prepared and redecorated in a durable masonry finish, with window surrounds, fluted pilasters, cornices and arches picked out by hand. The roof dormers, including the ornate porthole dormer, were repaired, decorated and fitted with bird deterrent spikes.
With the scaffold struck, the block presents a clean, uniform white elevation to both the Upper Tooting Road and Cowick Road frontages, with the original detailing sharp again.
